General Physics Homework Questions

Please answer the following questions on a separate sheet of paper to hand in on Monday. Answers are posted in bold so you can check your work. Your homework must show ALL WORK.

1. Batman is chasing after some unlucky villains on a rooftop 40 m above the ground. If the villains jump to the next rooftop which stands 44 m above the ground, what jumping velocity will Batman need to inflict some justice? (vi = 8.85 m/s)

2. As a prank, you decide to stand on the roof of Springfield High School (20m) and wait for Mr. Bonnette to walk by below you. You heave a large water balloon at an angle of 10° with a velocity of 10m/s (bad idea). Since Mr. B is 1.8m tall, what would be the velocity of the balloon if he were to be hit in the head? (vf = 21.37 m/s)

3. You are playing leap-frog. What minimum velocity would you need to leave the ground with if you had to jump over your friend 0.5 m high and pass with a speed of 0.2 m/s? (vi = 3.14 m/s)
